Nuremberg clinic for aesthetic plastic surgery Dr. Kunze

LASER

Preparatory treatment, depending on skin type:

A pre-treatment of the skin will be necessary 2 weeks before the laser surgery, where a thin layer of medical cream such as Synchroline-Terpoline will be applied to cleansed skin in the evening. This application can be increased to morning and evening.

Also prior to surgery the patient will be given an antibiotic, such as Aciclovir ration 400, to be taken consistently 2 days before and 5 days after surgery in a dose of 4 pills a day as a protective treatment against the Herpes virus as well as against bacterial infection.

The surgery:

Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment:
The procedure will be performed with local anesthetic combined with a light sedation. Anesthetic may not be necessary if only small damages, caused by exposure to the sun or natural aging, have to be treated. After laser surgery it is imperative that the skin will not be exposedto UV-light (sun or artificial sunlight) for at least 4 weeks .

Follow up care within the first 2 weeks after the laser treatment:
Except for a light local burning sensation on the skin, similar to a sunburn, the patient will not feel any discomfort. The skin on the treated areas will discharge and tend to incrustation. We will apply a skin coloured medical plastic bandage to the treated areas of the skin. As of the 3 rd post-operative day a repeated washing (at least 6 times a day) with cool water mixed with a bit of vinegar and liquid soap is required, followed by application of Vaseline or other ointments. The skin will show a distinct redness similar to a strong sunburn which will start to fade after 1 week and then improve daily. The skin will be completely recovered within 2 weeks after surgery.

Postsurgical Care:
As soon as skin has recovered from surgery we recommend wearing a light cover make up in your skin tone. Make-up should be determined with a pharmacist or beauty specialist and tested for allergic reaction already before surgery . A still visible light redness of the treated skin areas will be mostly gone within 4 weeks after surgery. Depending on the intensity of the laser treatment the skin areas might still be sensitive for 1-2 months after surgery. Exposure to UV-light should only be undergone after complete recovery of the skin and upon consultation with the treating physician.

Medical postsurgical care:
As of the 2 nd week after surgery medical creams such as Synchroline-Terpoline, Lasoderm, Pigmanorm, should be applied beside a cover make-up, depending on the skin condition, to speed up the healing of the skin.

A treatment with the carbon dioxide laser has proven to be more effective on aesthetical or pathological skin problems that could not be treated earlier, although it causes discomfort to the patient for 2 weeks. If you carefully follow all of your surgeon’s instructions, you will achieve rapid and long lasting results. In special cases of larger scars (scars caused by acne or deep lines) a secondary or third treatment will be necessary.
