EYELID CORRECTUR

Eyelids Lift (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes are the focal point of the face and contribute substantially to your overall appearance. First signs of aging will be mostly visible around the eyes. This condition can be easily corrected with only a few “small” surgical incisions and the outcoming results are amazingly positive. Eyelid surgery can brighten the face and restore a more youthful appearance.
The most common features are sagging, drooping upper eyelids or puffy bags below the eyes. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure to remove fat —usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids - the incisions being made with very fine sutures and placed along the natural line of your eyelids: in the creases of the upper lids and just below the lashes in the lower lids, extending into the crow’s feet or laugh wrinkles at the outer corners of your eyes, also slightly stretching the skin at the temples. Small fat pockets, if existing, will also be removed.

For lower eyelid surgery to remove puffy bags below the eyes, the incisions will be placed along the lash line, separating the skin from underlying fatty tissue and muscle, removing excess fat, trimming sagging skin and muscle. When performing on the lower eyelids the surgeons are more reluctant with the removal of tissue in order to avoid a very rare complication — the so-called ectropion — a pulling down of the lower lids. In some cases the surgery will be combined with a cantopexia, to minimize the risk of dropping of the outer corners of the lids.

A special method of surgery on the lower eyelids is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, which will be applied if you have a pocket of fat beneath your lower eyelids but don’t need to have any skin removed. In this procedure the incision is made inside your lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar. It is usually performed on younger patients with thicker, more elastic skin.

Surgery of the upper lids may be performed in a surgeon’s office-based facility, an outpatient surgical center or a hospital, usually done on an outpatient basis. Surgery of the lower eyelids requires an inpatient stay. A recovery period of 1-2 weeks after surgery will be necessary (lower eyelids will take longer). Cold compresses will have to be used to reduce bruising and swelling.
